Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide YCYW,Ogun State Council Flag-Off it's 26 hectares Cassava Farm in Alagbagba, Olodo, Odeda LG Co-Funded by OG-STEP

The Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide YCYW Ogun state being one of the foremost indigenous Social- Cultural Youth groups in Nigeria has proven the dexterity, capacity and potential of Yoruba youth in participating in agricultural development in Nigeria through their engagement in the commercial cultivation of 26 hectares of Cassava Farm in Ogun State.

The project being led by the YCYW State chairman Omoluabi Adebowale Sunday has put into practicality what quality and exemplary leadership means, he his deeply passionate in his vision for food security in Ogun state, South West, and Nigeria as a whole. He affirmed that with effective support from the government and other stakeholders the Nigerian youth specially in the South West region of Nigeria will be encouraged to go back to farm and be proud to be called a farmer.

Omoluabi Adebowale credited their project success to the solid support and funds received from the ogun state government through the Ogun state transformational development programme OG-STEP (Agric). He emphasized that the funds from the OG-STEP is the main catalyst that enhance their members capacity and sustained willingness to withstand the storm and challenges faced through the farming season. He admitted that working together as a group in a farming venture isn't an easy journey as it comes with multi-facets challenges which require patience of the leader and strong internal conflict management mechanism to stay afloat. 

The YCYW Farmers gathered on Thursday 22nd May 2025 to Flag-Off their harvesting, on the farm with them was the Queen Farmer Dr. Angel Adelaja who travelled several miles down to the farm passing through a forest-look road just to ensure she is able to see what the youth farmers have been able to achieve. On getting to the farm she appreciated the farmers for doing an excellent farm production. She delivered the Goodwill message of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State Governor) and The Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture Hon. Bolu Owotomo, on behalf of the Ogun state government and ministry of agriculture she commended the farmers for their success, most especially seeing that each harvested plant weigh above 3kg. She encouraged them to remain committed to agricultural production assuring them to be more positioned for other future supports as they have established a very good track record and have proven themselves business ready for agribusiness.

Also, the delegation of the VCDF Service Provider for the OG-STEP OKD Agro Services led to the farm by Dr Oyegbile and Mr. Ige Afelumo with his team assessed the harvest and expressed their satisfaction with the quality farm management put in place by YCYW. He affirmed that the yoruba youths farmers group are one of the most successful beneficiary under the OG-STEP program. He commended their efforts in being diligent in effective usage of the resources given to them. 

Furthermore, One of the Youth Farmers Leaders in Ogun State Ade-Daniel who has been working closely with the group from the project ideation stage was present to Flag-Off the harvest. He has been very instrumental to the success of the group project working closely with the project team to provide on-the-field practical consultancy services, reviewing their milestones and providing guidance on what to be done at each phasis. He encouraged the group to fast track their harvesting to be able to replant in this farming season as he emphasized the important of consistency and going concern in agricultural production. 

One of the group Leader Hon. Femi Onadeko appreciate the state government for their support and also extend their appreciation to Senator (Aremo)Olamilekan Solomon YAYI for his logistic support to enhance farm activities through the provision of truck tricycle to the farmers group. He expressed that the truck has reduced their cost at harvesting by 50%, enhance productivity and increased profitability. 

The Baale of Alagbagba Chief Sodiya Ashiwaju also appreciates the state government for encouraging the youths and affirmed their readiness to work together with the state government and support the good initiatives of the government to enhance local production and boost economic growth in the state. He further expressed that rural road and infrastructure development is a key metrics to bring about more success of this manner. Thus, assured the state government that the people of Alagbagba are looking forward to more collaborative productive activities with the government.
