Fencing Niger Republic Border Will Curb Terrorist Influx – Defence Chief

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has affirmed that erecting a physical barrier along Nigeria’s border with the Niger Republic will significantly help in checking the movement of terrorists and other criminal elements into the country. He described the porous nature of the border as a major security challenge contributing to the spate of insurgency and banditry in the northern region.

Speaking during a national security dialogue in Abuja, General Musa emphasized the importance of strategic infrastructure in safeguarding national security. He noted that the fencing project, once completed, would enhance border surveillance, improve troop response time, and support intelligence-gathering operations.

The Defence Chief also called for collaborative efforts among neighbouring countries to jointly tackle trans-border threats. He stressed that while physical barriers are critical, regional cooperation, information sharing, and technology deployment remain vital components of long-term security solutions.
