Kate Henshaw Raises Alarm Over Surrogacy Abuse in Nigeria, Demands Stricter Laws

Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has warned against the growing trend of surrogacy in Nigeria, citing the potential for exploitation of vulnerable women. During a recent interview on News Central, she expressed concern that without proper regulation, surrogacy could become a tool to commodify women’s bodies and endanger their health and rights.

Henshaw highlighted that many financially desperate women might be lured into surrogacy arrangements without understanding the emotional, physical, and legal consequences. She stressed that the absence of binding legislation means surrogates could be abandoned after childbirth, with no form of support or legal recourse.

She called on Nigerian lawmakers to urgently draft and enforce comprehensive surrogacy laws. According to her, this would help protect all parties involved, especially the women who bear the most risk. “It’s not like buying an item. Women can die during childbirth,” she warned.
