Ayra Starr Makes History as First African Artist to Earn Latin Diamond Certification
Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first African artist to receive a Latin Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
This remarkable feat comes through her international hit ‘Santa’, a collaboration with Jamaican producer Rvssian and Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro.
Released globally, ‘Santa’ crossed over 35 million streams in the Latin market, earning it the Latin Diamond plaque. The song also enjoyed widespread acclaim in Latin America and Europe, topping charts in Spain and hitting No. 2 in Colombia, Ecuador, and Central America.
Additionally, ‘Santa’ has been certified multi-Platinum in Spain and Mexico, further cementing Ayra Starr’s global appeal.
With this, Ayra Starr joins fellow Nigerian singer Rema — whose track ‘Bubalu’ is certified Platinum — as the only African artists with RIAA Latin certifications. The Mavin Records star’s breakthrough adds to the growing global recognition of Afrobeats and African talent in the Latin music space.
