Buhari Could Have Died Earlier If He Used Nigerian Hospitals — Femi Adesina

Former presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has stirred debate with a blunt admission that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari might not have survived his long-term illness had he relied on Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Speaking during Channels Television’s special funeral coverage on Tuesday, Adesina responded to criticism over Buhari’s death in a London hospital, saying the late leader had always used UK hospitals even before becoming president in 2015.

“Those doctors were already familiar with his medical history. There was no need to change them,” Adesina said. “Truth be told, if President Buhari had used Nigerian hospitals, he might have been long gone.”

He acknowledged the shortfalls in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, citing inadequate facilities and expertise to manage Buhari’s condition.

The remarks have sparked fresh conversations around the state of Nigeria’s medical infrastructure, the long-standing trend of medical tourism by public officials, and what it means for ordinary citizens.
