Fuji icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) has firmly defended his eligibility for the Awujale of Ijebuland throne amid rising criticism over his royal claims.

In a letter dated December 3 and addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, K1 formally declared his intention to be considered for the revered stool. He described himself as a “bona fide son” of the ruling house, tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage.

He wrote:
“I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, hereby formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland… I am a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, tracing my ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage.”

K1 noted that he has spent over five decades promoting Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian culture through music and cultural contributions.

Facing public scrutiny, the Fuji maestro addressed the controversy in a video on his YouTube channel, insisting that his paternal and maternal roots are deeply tied to Ijebu royalty.

“Those who gave birth to me know me, and I also know them. I’m from a royal lineage. I’m from the Fidipote ruling house, and also from the Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode,” he said.
He further stated that the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, had thoroughly verified his lineage before bestowing the titles Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu on him in 2023.

“If I’m not from a royal lineage, I wouldn’t have been installed,” he emphasized.

Calling for unity among Ijebu people, K1 cautioned against turning the succession process into a conflict.

“The matter on the ground does not call for a fight… Anyone who eventually emerges, we’ll all work together for the development of Ijebuland.”

He concluded by saying this would be his final public comment on the matter:

“All princes, we are all one. We shouldn’t be at war with ourselves.”
