Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo has been re-elected President of the Iperu Akesan Development Association (IDA) for the 2026–2028 tenure at an election held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Iperu Remo. The peaceful and orderly exercise attracted sons and daughters of Iperu Remo from within and around Remoland, with three accredited voters drawn from recognised clubs and associations participating in the process.
The Chairman of the IDA Electoral Committee, Mr. Omisanya Shittu B. O. appreciated the traditional institution, dignitaries, stakeholders and Iperu people at home and abroad for their cooperation and commitment to the election. He also acknowledged the immediate past IDA Executive Officers and thanked members of the Electoral Committee for their dedication to the successful conduct of the exercise.
In goodwill messages, the Asoju-Oba of Iperu Remo, Otunba Kole Olatunji; High Chief Jide Sosan; Hon. Kola Odusanya; and Alhaja Sariat Ogunlaja commended the peaceful election, stakeholder cooperation and the electoral system adopted. They appreciated the Electoral Committee, while Otunba Olatunji urged Iperu sons and daughters to support the new leadership and encouraged the Executive Officers to lead by example and deliver. Alhaja Ogunlaja also called for continued teamwork and greater participation of women in Iperu’s initiatives, projects and development programmes.
The newly elected Executive Officers took the oath of office, administered by Barr. Babatunde Awotunbo, formally commencing their 2026–2028 tenure.
Speaking after his re-election, Oyebanjo thanked the people of Iperu for renewing their confidence in him and described the mandate as a responsibility to consolidate previous achievements and strengthen the Association. He identified Inclusiveness, Tolerance, Unity, Development and Heritage as the five cardinal principles of his administration, with priorities including education, healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure, electricity, security and economic opportunities.
Oyebanjo also announced that he was relinquishing the chairmanship of the IDA Estate Committee to Otunba Wale Abdul, to bring his managerial and leadership acumen to the committee. He appealed to Otunba Abdul to serve as Ex-officio I, alongside Mr. Wasiu Onawale, Esq., as Ex-officio II, to provide continuity and institutional support.
He further pledged to strengthen partnerships with government, corporate organisations, development agencies, philanthropists and Iperu people in the Diaspora, while preserving the community’s cultural heritage, including Eyo, Ojude-Oba and Akesan Day, and harnessing it for tourism, economic opportunities and community pride.
In interviews with the media crew of Remo Culture and Tourism e-Magazine, High Chief Jide Sosan, Asiwaju Adeleke Oshilaja and High Chief Babajide Oyeti described the election as free and fair, commending the approved electoral system, screening process and overall conduct.
Among the dignitaries present were Mr. Mofopefoluwa Joseph, Hon. Tajudeen Ibrahim, Hon. Wale Oyekoya, Hon. Segun Ogunleye, Alhaji Oladipupo Ibrahim, Alhaja Sariat Ogunlaja and Dr. Razaq Y. Akinbo, alongside other distinguished sons and daughters of Iperu Remo.
Oyebanjo called for greater unity, tolerance, consultation and collective responsibility, reaffirming his commitment to transparency, accountability and open governance. He urged all stakeholders to place the collective interest above personal or sectional considerations and support the new administration in building a peaceful, united, economically vibrant and culturally proud Iperu, guided by the principle: “Iperu First.”
