Court Sentences Timileyin Ajayi to Death by Hanging for Murder of Salome Adaidu

A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi, also known as Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, by Justice Simon Aboki, who ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Ajayi had lured Salome to his residence in Papalana, New Karshi, Abuja, under the guise of reconciliation before brutally killing and dismembering her. Her remains were later found in buckets in his apartment, while her severed head was discovered in a bag by a motorcyclist who reported the matter to the police. The shocking details sparked national outrage and renewed concerns about gender-based violence in Nigeria.

The judgment brings a sense of justice to Salome’s grieving family and friends, many of whom have demanded a swift and fair trial since the incident occurred in January 2025.
