Kebbi Government Proposes Death Penalty for Bandit Informants Amid Renewed Attacks

In response to recent deadly attacks by armed bandits, the Kebbi State Government has announced plans to amend existing laws to prescribe the death penalty or life imprisonment for individuals convicted of serving as informants to bandits.

Governor Nasiru Idris disclosed this during condolence visits to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Areas, where recent attacks claimed 30 lives. Describing informants as a major threat to public safety, the governor stressed that his administration would treat security matters with the utmost seriousness.

He revealed that arrangements have been finalised to establish an Army operational base in the Zuru Emirate to strengthen security operations. Additionally, he confirmed the deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security equipment from Abuja to enhance the state’s defence capabilities.

While sympathising with victims and grieving families, Governor Idris assured residents that safeguarding lives and property remains a top priority of his administration. He prayed for divine mercy on the souls of those lost and swift recovery for the injured.
