Arrest Amaechi Now Over Bloodshed Comments, CSO Tells DSS, Police, AGF

The Coalition for the Defence of Nigeria’s Democracy (CDND) has called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police, and the Attorney-General of the Federation to immediately arrest former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments which the group described as inciting and dangerous. The organisation believes Amaechi’s remarks—suggesting a revolution and possible bloodshed to stop President Bola Tinubu in 2027—pose a grave threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

In a strongly worded statement signed by CDND convener, Dr Rufus Obadiah, the group accused Amaechi of glorifying civil unrest and comparing Nigeria’s political climate to that of Bangladesh and Peru, where mass protests have disrupted governance. CDND said Amaechi’s reference to Nigerians being “too docile” was a veiled call for public uprising, masked as political commentary.

The group warned that such utterances are similar in tone and danger to separatist rhetoric previously condemned by the government. It said ignoring Amaechi’s statements would create a double standard, especially when others like Nnamdi Kanu have been prosecuted for comparable offenses. The coalition also questioned Amaechi’s legacy during his 16 years in public office, which it described as “uninspiring and tainted by failed transport policies.”

CDND urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Amaechi’s new political platform, to dissociate itself from any call to violence or risk being seen as a platform for extremist populism. It insisted that Nigeria’s democracy must not be threatened by reckless statements from political elites seeking power through fear and instability.
