El-Rufai Confirms Coalition’s Adoption of ADC, Aregbesola Named Interim Secretary
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially announced that the opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform. The coalition includes major political figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and El-Rufai himself, who had previously explored forming a new party but opted for the ADC due to legal and timing constraints.
In a strategic move to build momentum, the coalition has unveiled a transitional leadership structure. Former Senate President David Mark was appointed interim National Chairman, while ex-Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola was named interim National Secretary. Former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi will serve as the interim National Publicity Secretary.
Aregbesola, in his acceptance speech, emphasized that the ADC must be more than a vehicle for elections, but a true representation of democratic values and accountability. He assured Nigerians that the coalition would work tirelessly to offer a credible and people-focused alternative in 2027.
