Trump Confirms Date and Venue for 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw

US President Donald Trump has announced that the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on December 5, 2025. Trump described the event as “the biggest, probably the biggest event in sports,” while addressing reporters at the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and will be the first to feature 48 teams instead of the traditional 32. This expansion marks a historic shift in the competition’s format and promises more global representation than ever before.

So far, 13 nations have secured qualification: Canada, Mexico, USA, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Korea Republic, Japan, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, and New Zealand. The World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across multiple cities in North America.
