FG TERMINATES MANDATORY PRE-RETIREMENT LEAVE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to immediately stop the practice of placing civil servants on a mandatory three-month pre-retirement leave.

The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, and sent to ministers, permanent secretaries, service chiefs, heads of agencies and other senior public sector administrators. The circular clarified that the Public Service Rules do not provide for any mandatory three-month leave before retirement.

Walson-Jack explained that several MDAs had misinterpreted the retirement notice period as an automatic leave period, resulting in the premature withdrawal of workers from active service.
