According to Neighbourhoodmic Media Correspondent, Mr. Adeyemi, the meeting commenced with a formal Call to Order and opening prayers, after which party leaders deliberated extensively on the need to preserve unity and maintain the long-standing peace within the ward.
Presiding over the meeting, Leader Oyekoya Bama appreciated members for the successful conduct of the ward congress and urged party faithful to continue promoting peace and harmony. He reiterated the party's commitment to ensuring continuity in governance and disclosed that consultations had been made regarding the forthcoming by-election.
During deliberations, the names of interested aspirants were presented, including Comrade Muyiwa Osularu, Hon. Monsuru Osho, and Hassan Mukaila. Party leaders and stakeholders emphasized the need for diligence, fairness, and consensus in selecting a candidate capable of effectively representing the ward.
Following extensive consultations, stakeholders unanimously agreed to adopt Hon. Monsuru Osho (Oshopey) as the consensus candidate of APC Ward 5 for the forthcoming by-election. Leaders noted that Hon. Osho had previously demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the party, recalling that he had voluntarily stepped down in a previous contest involving the late Hon. Nurudeen Bakare in the overall interest of party unity.
The meeting further resolved that Comrade Muyiwa Osularu was ineligible for consideration due to his current appointment as Special Adviser on Youth Affairs to the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Jamiu Mohammed Asimi, a position which stakeholders stated remains valid and recognized by the party and local government administration. Hassan Mukaila was also said to have stepped aside following consultations among leaders.
While reaffirming their support for the consensus arrangement, some stakeholders expressed concerns over reports of external influences allegedly attempting to alter the outcome reached by Ward 5 leaders. Discussions at the meeting referenced the involvement of APC State Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani Igwe of Abeokuta North Local Government, as well as political actor Mr. Temitope Akintunde (Armstrong).
Participants alleged that efforts were being made to challenge the consensus reached by ward leaders through external political and financial influence. However, stakeholders maintained that the affairs of APC in Ward 5 and Ikenne Local Government should remain the responsibility of duly constituted excos, leaders and members within the local government.
The meeting stressed that APC Ward 5 remains united and committed to democratic consultation, insisting that neither its leaders, youths, nor members can be influenced away from decisions collectively reached in the overall interest of the party.
Stakeholders also emphasized that Ikenne Local Government has consistently managed its internal political affairs peacefully and successfully, warning that any actions capable of creating divisions among members, particularly the youth constituency, should be discouraged.
Consequently, party leaders and members appealed to key APC leaders in Ogun State, including Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON; Aremo Olusegun Osoba; Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI); APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi; Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide; and other members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), to support ongoing efforts aimed at preserving peace, unity, and stability within APC Ward 5 and Ikenne Local Government.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all attendees to work collectively for the success of Hon. Monsuru Osho and the APC in the forthcoming by-election, while maintaining peace, discipline, and respect for established party structures.
