Enugu Air Kicks Off Officially
The much-anticipated Enugu Air, Nigeria’s newest state-owned commercial airline, has been officially launched Monday in Enugu State. The event marks a historic milestone as Enugu becomes one of the few Nigerian states to own and operate a commercial airline.
The airline takes off with an initial fleet of three Embraer aircraft — the E170 and E190 series — carefully selected for their fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and suitability for regional operations.
Services will soon extend to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other strategic cities across Nigeria and potentially the West African subregion.
The initial flight paths are designed to create a “Golden Triangle”, with Enugu as the central hub. This configuration ensures seamless and high-frequency connections between Nigeria’s major economic and political capitals Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu enhancing business and tourism travel.
Officials emphasized that Enugu Air is more than just a transportation project it is a symbol of regional development, economic empowerment, and state-led innovation. The airline is expected to boost tourism, attract investments, and generate employment across aviation and hospitality sectors in the Southeast and beyond.
